If you have ever found yourself wondering exactly how a particularly intricate piece of moulding or trim was produced, the answer can more than likely be found here at Fraser Millworks.

By combining our industry's most advanced equipment with years of experience we are able to custom craft virtually any style of radius or straight moulding. We begin with your plans, a sketched idea, or even a sample of the moulding style you would like produced. Then we begin a series of steps that will ultimately lead to beautifully custom crafted moulding.

Grinding the knife
In order to produce a custom moulding, a knife must first be ground by hand. Knives are ground from hardened steel to a razor sharp edge using a "Wadkin Knife Grinder". Each knife is then tested to assure an exact match to the pattern or specifications.

High Performance Saws
High performance saws are used to cut rough lumber down to the various sizes that will be required in the final stages of production. These high performance saws are capable of multiple simultaneous cuts and can produce hundreds of linear feet of unfinished moulding per hour.

In the final stages of production, our craftsmen will use one of our Weinig moulders or our Northwood CNC router. The knives are carefully mounted into the cutter heads of these precision machines which rotate at tremendous speeds and carve the moulding.
Weinig Profimat 23 Moulder
Our Profimat 23 Moulder is designed to use multiple cutting heads and knives to produce multiple cuts in the same run. Since changing knives requires great care and tends to be a time consuming task, the ability to make multiple cuts dramatically increases efficiency.

Weinig Unimat 30 EL Moulder
Our Unimat 30 EL Moulder provides us with all the capabilities of the Profimat 23 with considerably larger capacity. The 30 EL can mill a board up to 8" thick and 11 1/4" wide. Additional power provided to the cutting heads allows for the wider stock and the ability to produce more simultaneous cuts. Bigger machine, better capabilities, even more beautiful moulding and wood trim.

Northwood CNC Router
Our Northwood CNC Router is one of our most versatile pieces of precision equipment. This computer guided precision router adjusts its cutting table and cutting head simultaneously to cut any degree of radius moulding in any style. It also performs countless other tasks that increase our efficiency in door and shutter production.
